　リューベン・ウィルソンはオルガン奏者として、ブルーノートその他にリーダー・アルバムがあります。
　だからてっきりジャズの人なのかと思って本作をターンテーブルにのっけると、えらいことになるでしょう。どこがジャズやねん！と叫びたくなるかもしれません。

　しかし、これはこれでいい。この時代ならではのソウルを感じます。
　ジャズでは決して本流になりえないオルガニストが、実際はいちばん黒人音楽の爆心地に近かったわけ。
　ジミー・スミスがヴォーカルに意欲的だったのも、おそらくそういう流れと無関係ではなかったのでは。

　なおリューベン・ウィルソンはインタビューで、自分のアルバムでは本作をいちばん気に入っていると語っています。
　おそらくこの人、オルガンを気持ちよく弾いてりゃそれでよかったんだろうな。ジャズと非ジャズの境界線なんか、まるっきり興味なかったと思いますよ。
