ごらんの通り、私はアナログ・レコードのブログを書いています。しかしべつだんCDが嫌いというわけでも、CDなんて滅亡しろと願っているわけでもありません。
90年代の途中までは、人並みにCDを買っておりました。そんなCDの愛聴盤に、映画『グッドフェローズ』のサントラがあります。
『アメリカン・グラフィティ』のサントラをしょぼくしたような懐メロのコンピレーションで、就中ザ・ハープトーンズの"Life Is But a Dream"がお気に入りでした。
勢い余ってザ・ハープトーンズのCDを買い求めたところ、"Sunday Kind of Love"という曲を知るに至ったのです。
とてもいい曲です。ザ・ハープトーンズがオリジナルというわけではなくて、スタンダード曲として多くのアーティストにカバーされています。
ベン・シドランという人にせんほど興味はなかったものの、"Sunday Kind of Love"を歌っているというその一点のみで本作を買ってしまいました。これさえ聴ければ余は満足じゃ。
ビリー・ジョエル・ナンバーのB1、この歌い出し、「ちゃんと歌えよ！」と叱りたくなるくらいぞんざいです。そこがたまらなくジャジーです。
いきなり闖入してハイ・ノートを乱れ打つウディ・ショウのトランペットも、直後にシドランが放つゴツゴツしたピアノ・ソロも、ジャズ的興奮に満ちています。
