本アルバムを入手するずっと前の話。
かつて、テレビ東京の朝の経済番組で、A3がBGMにかかっていました。
フェンダーローズの音が大好物の私、どうしてもタイトルやアーティスト名を知りたくなり、勇気を絞ってテレビ東京に電話したのです。
経済番組を担当しているらしいおっさんに何とかつないでもらえましたが、BGMについて尋ねるとそんなもん知るかこっちは忙しいんだ（実際はもっと柔和な言葉でした）とけんもほろろのしょっぱい対応。
糸山ちゃんに言いつけるぞコノヤロー、と恫喝しそうになる激情をこらえてどうにか受話器を置いたものの、曲名を知る術を絶たれ、やるかたない失意を胸に幾星霜を重ねたのでありました。
それから数年後。
ジョー・サンプルの訃報に接した私は、クルセイダーズ以外のジョー・サンプル作品でも聴いてみんべ、などと考え、たまたま店頭で手にした本作を購入することになります。
ガチャガチャうるさいA2の狂騒の後、あの曲が流れ始めました。目の前にあるターンテーブルで今、ぐるぐる回っている黒い円盤から、嗚呼、あの曲が…。
ずっと探し求めてきたあの曲が、ここにあったのか、ついに見つけたぞという驚き、喜び。まさにリアル「ごん、お前だったのか」体験…いやちょっと違うだろ。
